Boko Haram kidnaps two prominent Emirs in Borno state

According to breaking news report by Premium Times, Boko Haram men this morning kidnapped 2 first class traditional rulers in Borno State - the Emir of Uba, Ismaila Mamza and the Emir of Gwoza, Idrisa Timta.

According to security officials who spoke with Premium Times, the emirs were seized by the gunmen around 10a.m today Friday May 30th near Shaffa while they were traveling to Gombe to attend the funeral of the Emir of Gombe, Shehu Abubakar, who died on Tuesday May 27th.

The Borno state government is yet to issue an official statement on the abduction

Following the shocking news of the death of the wife of the Conference Chairman, the conference has adjourned its sitting till Monday.

N49.8b: Senate report clears NNPC, Deziani, says no money missing

The Senate Committee on Finance which investigated the NNPC over allegations of fraud leveled against it by the suspended Governor of the Central Bank, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, today Wednesday May 28th submitted its report to the Senate saying no funds were missing, The Will Nigeria reports.

The owner of Manchester United football club, Malcolm Glazer, has died. The billionaire business man who bought Man U in 2005 and also owned NFL team Tampa Bay Buccaneers, died today May 28, three days after his 86th birthday.

He was the president and chief executive officer of First Allied Corporation, a holding company for his varied business interests. He was worth $4billion.

He left behind a wife, 6 children and 14 grandchildren.

Deeper Life pastor, Eric Abakporo, sentenced to 6yrs for Real Estate fraud

A former Brooklyn-based civil attorney, and Pastor of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Ifeanyichukwu Eric Abakporo, was today in federal court in New York sentenced to six years in a United States prison in a case of defrauding banks, mortgage lenders, property owners, and property buyers.

Mr. Abakporo was immediately remanded into custody by presiding U.S. District Court Judge, Shira A. Scheindlin. His wife and two children wept openly in the courtroom. He was led away in handcuffs.

There was panic in the Kurudu, Jikoyi community in the outskirt of Abuja this morning after a loud explosion was heard. Residents in the area were reportedly seen running for safety when they heard the loud bang.

It was initially thought to be a bomb blast but a Spokesman for the Nigerian army assured people it wasn't, explaining that a rock blocking a new road being constructed from Karishi to Apo in the Abuja city centre, was blasted with dynamites to help free the road and allow construction to continue

Meriam Yahia Puts to Bed in Prison

The Sudanese Christian woman, Meriam Yahia Ibrahim Ishag, who was sentenced to death by hanging on May 15th for committing Apostasy, (renouncing ones faith or religion), has given birth to a baby girl in prison. Her husband, Daniel Wani made this known yesterday when he spoke with AFP.

Doctors at Federal Medical Centre Owerri today protested over unpaid wages and said they will soon embark on indefinite strike. The doctors complained that the FMC management has formed a habit of not paying salaries and entitlements, and with so many deductions when they eventually pay.

Someone in the know said the residents haven't been paid September 2013 salary. The house officers who worked for 3 months received payment for only two months with so many deductions. They say this is not fair considering the health hazards they are exposed to on a daily basis and the fact that they are always away from their families on call only to have their salaries cut in half.

Mr. Obi left for India yesterday in company of his media aide, Mr. Valentine Obienyem. The two men confirmed in a message from India that Prof. Akunyili is responding to treatment and that her situation is nothing near the scary picture being painted by rumour mongers.

While presenting the 2014 budget signed last week by Pres. Clarion Chukwura Wins AMAA Best Actress + criticize Ibinabo in new interview

Clarion Chukwura, who won Best Actress in a leading role at the 2014 AMAA awards which held on Saturday May 24th, is still attacking AGN president Ibinabo Fiberesima. In a new interview with Yes magazine, Clarion said her recent attacks on Ibinabo is not based on jealousy, because her brand is way bigger than Ibinabo's brand, but only trying to bring dignity back into the guild...

"If Ibinabo recognized me as a senior colleague, she would have picked up her phone and called me at one point or the other, before or during her leadership. She had never done so. That is one. Wazobia FM OAP’s Yaw and Nedu Renew MTN Endorsement Deal

Wazobia FM’s hilarious duo, Yaw (Steve Onu) and Nedu (Chinedu Ani) recently renewed their MTN endorsement deals at the UPGMC office on wednesday, 21st May 2014.

The comedians were the host for the MTN Loud in Naija concert 2013 which toured over six states in Nigeria and to which many other states would be considered this year 2014.

Yaw and Nedu will be front-runners for MTN events, commercials, skits and other various content from the telecom firm.

Pictures: Omotola Jalade Receives ASGA Award in Cyprus

International actress and philanthropist Omotola Jalade Ekeinde on the 14th of May touched down at the Ercan International airport, Northern Cyprus. The Respected UN ambassador and Activist was heading to the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) where she was billed as a special guest and speaker at the school’s career fest.

Tweeting that the Istanbul international airport was her model look for the Nigerian Airport, the actress looked flawless in a leopard patterned jacket, white spaghetti top, fitted jeans and cream coloured pumps.

Welcomed by the Rector, vice rector, academic staff and representing African students of the school, Omotola was taken around the school and the Island.

There were reports last week that Will and Jada Smith were being investigated by the Department of Family and Children Services after pictures of their 13-year-old daughter Willow Smith lying in bed with half naked 20-year-old actor Moisés Arias surfaced online.

Willow has been question twice by DFACS. From Radar Online;

“Willow was questioned on two separate occasions by social workers from Child Protective Services,” the source said. “Once in the presence of her parents, and the second time, Willow was alone with the social workers.”

The source continued, “This is how all investigations are handled. Both Will and Jada have also been questioned. At this point, the investigation remains open, and won’t be closed for at least another few weeks.”

“Will and Jada have been extremely cooperative with officials,” according to the source. “Of course, they aren’t happy that their parenting skills are under scrutiny, but they understand.”

Former Malawian Minister commits suicide after losing election

Former Deputy Minister of Local Government, Godfrey Kamanya (pictured above) reportedly committed suicide today May 22nd, barely a day after the Malawi elections results started filtering in showing that he'd lost the parliamentary seat he was competing for in the 2014 Tripartite elections.

According to local news report, Mr Kamanya shot himself around 3:30 this morning at his house in Area 10, Lilongwe after losing the Lilongwe Msodzi North Parliamentary elections this week.

A few weeks ago, the film adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie's book Half of a Yellow Sun was to hit our cinema screens...but it was stopped. I heard the reason it was removed was because of the theme of the movie, the Hausa killing Ibo/biafra war story and because of the current situation in Nigeria, some scenes were asked to be cut from the movie by the Nigeria Film and Video Censors Board. I don't know if the scenes have been cut or what exactly is going on right now, but NFVCB has still refused to let the movie show in the cinemas.

Actor and former Actors' Guild of Nigeria president Segun Arinze is now calling for the resignation of the Director-General of the Censors Board. His statement below...

Please tell Madam Patricia Bala of Nigeria Film and Video Censors Board to release the movie Half of a Yellow Sun. She has no reason to hold on to the movie. She has no right to censor the movie only to classify it. She saw it in Canada and even partnered with the producers in Canada during the premiere. What she is doing now is an embarrassment to government and a big insult to our dear industry, Nollywood. We are not in a military regime. She should kindly resign'. - Segun Arinze

Michelle Williams is back with a brand new gospel song, but Nigerian Christians would’ve heard this over and over again in Church. Some probably just a few days ago in church.

She features Beyonce and Kelly Rowland in the song, “Say Yes” that starts off with “When Jesus say Yes, nobody can say No.”

I mean we know it’s definitely not original from her, but it brings up the question, who has the rights to the original song? Agatha Moses maybe? Her Nigerian husband? We’re not sure.

I’m hoping she gave some credits for the song, if not some Nigerian gospel singers will be coming for her via lawyers. I hear she did though.
