After six weeks of intense training and tasks, Muyiwa Iyowu, Victor Alayande, Onyemaechi Okafor, Peter Ndirpaya and Valentine Ubalua have emerged the top 5 geeks to qualify for the one year paid internship with Etisalat Nigeria in the Geek Force Internship Contest.
These ‘techy bunch’ proved the stuff they are made of by beating other contestants in the various tasks assigned to them during the competition.
They were trained by top Etisalat staff in areas such as product and service deployment, customer care and developing unique marketing propositions.
The contestants also spent time with rap artist, Iceberg Slim as they explored the basics of song writing and music making while Tinsel star, Tomi Odunsi showed the geeks what it took to become a good actor. CEO of Nigezie, Femi Aderibigbe a.k.a Kwame was also on hand to train on broadcasting and presenting.
The Director of Retail Sales at Etisalat Nigeria, Mr. Charles Ogunwuyi commenting on the outcome of the competition said the Geek Interns will live up to expectations as they showed a great deal of knowledge and determination. “We went through the rigors of mental, physical and emotional training for these youths to ensure we maximized their potentials so as to churn out a solid work force,” he said.
The Geek Force Internship contest was designed by Etisalat to offer its customers, particularly the youths, a chance to join the Etisalat workforce as interns for one year training on mobile application development. The search began with with a call for entries via a 2-3minute youtube video upload and Tumbrl page voting.
The Top 20 videos selected out of thousands received were further reviewed by a panel of judges with 10 finalists emerging for the competition.
The company said it is not just concerned about providing world class products and services to its customers but also to avail them a platform of career opportunities in an innovative, engaging and exciting way.
