Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State on Monday re-appointed three commissioners into his executive committee, following last week’s dissolution of the cabinet and sack of assistants.
Mr. Okorocha announced the development in Owerri while presenting certificates of service and awards to the past expanded executive committee.
The re-appointed commissioners are former Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Ichie Best-Mbanaso; former Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Planning, Uche Nwaosu; and former Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Chinedu Offor.
The governor also approved the re-appointment of 13 senior special assistants and special assistants in different categories.
He noted that the award and certificate presentation was in recognition of the support and contribution of the officers to his administration and to the progress and development of the state.
The four category awards to the commissioners, senior special assistants, and special assistants were for the best in public relations, dedication to duty, best team player, best self-starter and overall best in the different categories.
Mr. Best-Mbanaso got the award for the best in dedication to duty; the best team player award went to Mr. Nwaosu; while Mr. Offor got the best public relations commissioner award.
The overall best commissioner award also went to Best-Mbanaso while the former Special Assistant to the Governor on Domestics, Ogechi Ololo, got overall best special assistant award.
The best senior special assistant award went to Nma Oleribe of the MDGs.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Okorocha urged those not re-appointed to take it in good faith and continue to support his administration while outside the government.
“I owe my appreciation to all of you. In every competition there must be a winner. I want to thank you for your dedication and commitment to duty while serving the state.
“It was an appointment for you to serve your father land, but every journey must have an end,” he said.
“The governor commended those re-appointed, saying that their re-appointment was a call for them to work harder to realise the rescue mission agenda of the government.
“The journey that was started two years ago will soon end and I am glad that there is something to show for it. We came and saw the ugly situation and made it better.
“This is a day to show appreciation to those who have contributed in no small way to the progress of the state. We have raised the bar of governance and having raised this we will continue with it,” the governor said.
Mr. Okorocha pointed out that a political appointment was not for political gratification and charged those re-appointed and those that would join them to take the issue of governance seriously. He said that his administration, in the next two years, would focus on building of industries to cater for youth unemployment and in finding ways to end prostitution in the state. (NAN)
